Tefft
Cellars Winery invites
you to enjoy a true wine-country experience in the middle of the
winemaking Mecca called the Yakima Valley.
Just minutes west of
Sunnyside and north of Washington's Interstate 82, the Tefft estate is
just far
enough from city life and traffic noise to forget the stress left
behind. Only vineyards and orchards abound at this wine-country
getaway.
Tefft Cellars Winery was established
in 1991 in the middle of the Yakima Valley, Washington State's
oldest winegrowing region. The original winemaking facility and the founder's home
were
located side by side. Then and now, a commitment to healthy vineyards and
fine wines
are what keep the estate and wine-country experience consistent every year.
If
you're planning a visit to the Yakima Valley wine
region, you'll be
pleased to know the Tefft Cellars
tasting room is open every day from
10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you are interested in a tour of the
winery, call ahead to be sure a guide is on hand for your visit.

2009 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay
Carpenter
Vineyards, Rattlesnake Hills $24.00
[Order Now]
Subtle barrel aromas are matched beautifully with hints of dried
apples and vanillin. 100% Chardonnay
Blending & Aging:
These grapes
were immediately pressed and placed into new American Oak upon
harvest. Barrel fermentation was initiated and the wine allowed
to ferment and age for 9 months.
Alcohol content: 13.75%
2010 Pinot
Grigio Cowan Vineyards, Yakima Valley
$18.00
[Order Now]
We make our Pinot Grigio in the dry, crisp
Italian style. This varietal is a pale
straw color, and offers hints of citrus and
grapefruit flavors. A terrific sipping
wine, it has bright fruit, crisp acidity and
undertones of melon and pineapple. It is
wonderful on its own, and sufficiently
subtle to be paired with most foods.
Blending & Aging:
Less
than 24 hours contact with skins was allowed
for color extraction. The juice was then
placed into stainless tanks for
fermentation. Cold stabilization and flavor
integration took place over several months
before bottling.
Alcohol content: 13.5%
2007
Cabernet Sauvignon
Tefft Estate Vineyard Rattlesnake Hills $28.00
[Order Now]
Our big Cabernet was 3 years in the making,
spending 18 months in new and seasoned
French oak for more subtle vanillas and
barrel toastiness. Superb integration of a
solid tannic framework yields to bold black
currant, rich leather and earthy spiciness.
This full-bodied wine can be enjoyed today
or laid down for the future.
Blending & Aging:
This
wine was fermented in small lots, then
racked into French oak in January 2008.
Barrel aged for 18 months.
Alcohol content: 13.0%
2008 Estate
Nebbiolo Walcher Vineyard, Rattlesnake Hills $32.00
[Order Now]
Named for the afternoon
cloud formations that
caress the coast in the
Piedmont region of
Northern Italy, Nebbiolo
is a classic Old World
varietal of Barolo and
Barbaresco fame. A bold
wine with heavy
tannins in its youth,
look for this Nebbiolo
to still boast the
characteristic aroma of
roses, raspberries and
cherries. Be sure to
save a few bottles for
posterity... if you can
keep temptation at
bay!
Blending &
Aging:
This
late ripening estate
varietal wine was
blended in February
2009, and racked into
new old American oak
barrels and aged for 10
months then racked into
two-year old American
oak barrels and aged for
an additional 14
months.
About the
harvest: Our
Nebbiolo was harvested
in late October, the
last varietal to be
picked. Tefft's
vineyard is one of just
a few in Washington
State to grow this
prized varietal.
Alcohol content: 13.5%
2008
Tempranillo
Walcher Vineyard, Rattlesnake Hills $32.00
[Order Now]
This is our second
vintage year for this
special Spanish
varietal, and it’s
rewarding to see how the
last 12 months of aging
has added even more
smooth oak qualities to
this favorite at the
2010 Spring Barrel
Festival.
Enjoy the smoky violet
aromas as they blend
with cassis. This
wine features full
flavors of black
cherries, truffles and
light vanilla, braced by
moderate tannins and
smooth acidity. This is
a great wine to have
with steaks or a grilled
lamb shank.
Blending & Aging:
This wine was blended in February 2008,
and racked into 2-year-old American oak barrels and aged for 21
months. Alcohol content: 13.5%
