Bergevin Lane
Vineyards ...a tribute to Walla Walla's past, present and future
Deeply rooted in the early history of the Walla Walla Valley, as well as its more recent past as a wine region, the well-known Bergevin family dates back to pioneers of this area's mid-nineteenth century. Small wonder then, Walla Walla's wine industry is well represented by members of the Bergevin family. Gary Bergevin has been involved in the wine and farming communities for decades. The Story... the recent past A native of Walla Walla, Gary Bergevin became a director of Sandpiper Farms in 1972. First-hand knowledge of this land's potential led him to become a founding partner of Canoe Ridge Vineyard when it was sited there in 1988. The vineyard's first vines were planted 1989. In 1990, Canoe Ridge Vineyard formed a partnership with the Chalone Wine Group; Gary sat on the oversight committee for vineyard operations. When the vineyard merged with Canoe Ridge Vineyard Winery in 1993, Gary became a director of the winery as well. Today... a winery of their own With a BA in Communications well in hand, Gary's daughter Annette Bergevin left home to establish a career within the telecommunications and recruitment industries of the San Francisco Bay area. Fifteen years passed, and Annette longed for a change... a change that would offer her an opportunity to return home. Over the same 15-year period, Annette shared news from home and about the Walla Walla wine industry's exciting and remarkable growth with business associate and good friend Amber Lane. Amber's family also had a long history of farming and working with the earth. Personal dreams began to evolve, and the stage was set for what would become the reality of Bergevin Lane Vineyards. Annette will never forget the call from her father and the question, "do you and Amber have an interest in starting a small winery?" Bergevin Lane Vineyards was formed in 2002. Combining Gary’s experience and strong industry ties with Annette's and Amber's entrepreneurial business and sales expertise, this Walla Walla winery is clearly one to watch.
Winemaker
Steffan Jorgensen is originally from Denmark and brings experience,
palate and passion to the Bergevin Lane team; his experience in
winemaking comes from France, Chile, and Sonoma, CA. All of the
day-to-day winemaking operations and production is under Steffan’s
supervision. Steffan ensures that the wines are nurtured from vineyard
to bottle. The Future... A passion for wine, 20,000 square feet of space, and 21 stainless steel tanks allow the women of Bergevin Lane to expand their production as success and market demand require. At "first blush," success looks good on Bergevin Lane wines. Responses to the 2002 and 2003 releases validated the quality and value of the winery's first wines; 90+ ratings, gold medals and Best of Class came with 2004 and 2005 releases. The future of Bergevin Lane Vineyards promises more of the same... rave reviews for its discriminating production of premium wines -- wines created in an elegant style. |
