Free Lecture:  Wines Northwest presents "Cataclysms on the Columbia: The Great Missoula Floods and the terroir of the Gorge" a lecture by Professor Scott Burns, geologist & tour guide.  With a view of the Columbia River Gorge as a backdrop from the Riverview Room at the Best Western Plus Hood River Inn, the dynamic Professor Scott Burns will present this popular lecture and PowerPoint presentation focused on the incredible story of J. Harlen Bretz's discovery and interpretation of the geological evidence throughout the Pacific Northwest that finally led to the now commonly accepted account of the Missoula Floods.  One of the greatest sets of geological events ever to occur in North America, this series of cataclysmic floods repeatedly inundated more than 16,000 square miles of the Pacific Northwest with unbelievable power, reaching heights of up to 400 feet and permanently altering the landscape.
