Urban Pantry Culinary Class at Westport Winery.  Join the Westport Winery team and Urban Pantry author Amy Pennington for a three course culinary class (this class was previously scheduled for April 28 and was rescheduled).  Pennington is known for her smart, concise guide creating a full and delicious larder in your own home.

For the appetizer course Pennington will demonstrate how to make toasted almond crackers to serve with artisanal cheese.  She will then demonstrate her classic minestrone, a herbaceous summer soup.  As a unique salad she will share her recipe for carrots and eggs with anchovy crumbs.  Chef Pennington’s entrée for the course is spiced kibbe with herb yogurt alongside salt and nigella flatbread.   A perfect conclusion consists of a buttermilk cake topped with rose-infused strawberries.

Each course will be paired with one of Westport’s award-winning wines as winery co-owner, Kim Roberts, discusses wine pairings with these delicious recipes.  Pennington’s book is available to purchase at the winery and she will offer autographs during this class.  For more information or reservations call Westport Winery at 360-648-2224.

Fueled by Fine Wine Half Marathon.  Fueled by Fine Wine, in collaboration with the Dundee Hills AVA, is proud to present the fourth annual Fueled by Fine Wine Half-Marathon.  This event sets itself apart by exploring some of the most magnificent vineyard vistas in Oregon, working with local Dundee charities and Oregon sponsors creating an exciting event for the region while supporting the local economy.

A very limited group of 1,200 lucky runners will have the exclusive opportunity to propel themselves over many hills that make up Oregon’s world-class wine region.  Entrants will be treated to a unique departure from a typical running course, a large portion of the event will follow unpaved vineyard trails as they wind through rows of grapes and under branches of Oregon’s prized hazelnut trees.

Just as unique as the race venue, the after-race party will offer a perfect opportunity to sample—as well as stock the wine cellar with—some of Oregon’s best offerings, in the company of winemakers and fellow wine connoisseurs.  The event registration fee includes a tech race shirt, a colorful and substantial medal, a logo wine glass, admission to the after-race party, and well-earned tastings of acclaimed Dundee Hills wines … all in the midst of some of Oregon’s most famous wineries.
