Distinctly Southern Oregon

The natural beauty and more than century-old practice of agriculture have changed little on the southwest-facing slopes of Roxy Ann Peak in Southern Oregon.  Hillcrest Orchard has been operated by the Parson family since 1908 and has established a reputation for growing world-class fruit here on these slopes east of Medford in Oregon's Rogue Valley.  In 1997, the planting of Hillcrest Vineyard began on some of the historic orchard lands where the property's shallow, limestone-clay soils and southern solar exposure is ideally suited to producing Cabernet sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet franc, Grenache, Tempranillo, Viognier and Syrah.

Eighty-seven acres of estate vineyards are now planted on Hillcrest Orchard; most planted to cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot, the varietals that are main ingredients in RoxyAnn’s claret.  Other varietals now planted are reds such as malbec, petite sirah and tempranillo.  Hillcrest Vineyard is one of the warmest in the Rogue Valley.  Grapes for RoxyAnn's white wines, pinot gris and viognier, come from other, cooler vineyards like Don and Traute Moore’s vineyards and Pheasant Hill. Others come from the Willamette Valley.

Hillcrest introduced RoxyAnn Winery in 2002.  Its mission was, and is, to produce world-class wines, while supporting the Parsons family's commitment to preserving this land for future generations.  Both the orchard and the vineyard honor the agricultural heritage of this land by insuring that both are cultivated under sustainable land management practices.  The natural character of the estate can be tasted in the ripe, concentrated wines of RoxyAnn -- wines that possess rich color, complexity and concentration.

"A winemaker can't craft wines that surpass the quality of the fruit," notes winemaker John Quinones. "It's our job to fully develop, preserve, and showcase what comes from the vineyard. With appropriate viticulture practices, desired flavor profiles, balance and texture can be developed in the vineyard, long before the grapes are brought into the winery."  Quinones' stylistic hallmark among his wines is balance and texture. "I am very focused on the texture of a wine. The balance of the fruit, acidity, tannins, etc., is what creates a wine's texture. When the balance is right, the wine is in harmony and will simply feel good in your mouth."

Inside the historic Hillcrest "Honor" Barn, RoxyAnn Winery and Hillcrest Orchard welcome visitors daily with a blend of hospitality, wine tasting and produce sales.  In fact, many say the patently friendly and informative staff are the secret to making RoxyAnn Winery the most memorable of their Rogue Valley winery visits.  Consider bringing a picnic and enjoying it while overlooking the vineyard and orchard from the surrounding beautiful gardens.
