Bergevin Lane Vineyards
...a tribute to Walla Walla's past, present and future

Deeply rooted in the early history of the Walla Walla Valley, and in its more recent past as a Washington wine region, members of the well-known Bergevin family were pioneers to this area in the mid-nineteenth century.  Small wonder then Walla Walla's wine industry is well represented by members of that same family.

The Back Story...

Gary Bergevin has been involved in the area's wine and farming communities for decades.  A native of Walla Walla, he became a director of Sandpiper Farms in 1972.  Acquiring first-hand knowledge of this land's potential led him next to become a founding partner of the now renowned Canoe Ridge Vineyard when it was sited in 1988.  The vineyard's first vines were planted 1989.

In 1990, Canoe Ridge Vineyard formed a partnership with the Chalone Wine Group; Gary sat on the oversight committee for vineyard operations.  When the vineyard merged with Canoe Ridge Vineyard Winery in 1993, Gary became a director of the winery as well.

In the meantime, with her BA in Communications well in hand, Gary's daughter Annette Bergevin left home to establish a career within the telecommunications and recruitment industries of the San Francisco Bay area.  Fifteen years passed, and Annette longed for a change... a change that would offer her an opportunity to return home.  She shared her thoughts and news from home with business associate and good friend Amber Lane.  The news from home included updates about Walla Walla’s wine industry… its exciting and remarkable growth.  The subject did not fall on deaf ears since Amber's family also had a long history of farming and working with the earth.  Annette’s and Amber’s individual dreams of began to merge into a shared dream, and the stage was set for what became the reality of Bergevin Lane Vineyards.

Annette will never forget the call from her father and the fateful question, "Do you and Amber have any interest in starting a small winery?"

Bergevin Lane Vineyards was formed in 2002.  Combining Gary’s experience and strong industry ties with Annette's and Amber's entrepreneurial, business and marketing expertise, Bergevin Lane winery could hardly avoid becoming the award-winning Washington winery it is today.

The Winemaker - Steffan Jorgensen

The Future...

A passion for wine, 20,000 square feet of space and 21 stainless steel tanks allow Bergevin Lane to expand its production as success and market demand require; a  new estate vineyard - Bergevin Springs, planted in the spring of 2011 - allows the Bergevin family to share both its long-term local history and  its commitment to sustainability and the environment.  The estate vineyard is planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon, in addition to Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot and Viognier.  The farm has been in the Bergevin family since the early 1900s  The anticipated first-pick date is 2013.

The future of Bergevin Lane Vineyards promises to remain bright as rave reviews consistently praise its discriminating premium wines -- wines created in an elegant style to reflect harmony between fruit and oak.  Working closely with all its vineyard growers, Bergevin Lane insures it will always have the best of grapes by purchasing its fruit by the acre vs. the ton to ensure the utmost quality of fruit.

     Featured White Wines

2010 Viognier
Walla Walla Valley
$25.00  [Order Now]

Winemaking Notes:  Extreme selection was the key this year. As always the grapes are whole cluster pressed under inert conditions but this year I took it even a step further! The whole clusters were hand sorted in protection of inert gas before only the best looking clusters were gravity fed into our press. Pressing was done even more gently than previous years and cold settled in tank before being racked to barrel where each barrel was inoculated individually creating a very complex sphere of districts aromas and flavors!  Fermentation lasted 3-4 weeks at very cool temperatures and after completion no ML was allowed to preserve fresh aromatics.  No residual sugar is left in this wine. Weekly stirring of the lees took place for 5 months.

Alcohol:  14.2%

Tasting Notes:
Floral and spicy elegant perfume with citric elegance and succulent stone fruits merge perfectly with slight vanilla tones, lemon and ripe pear. Viscous and profound in the mouth with voluptuous notes of honey. Viognier par excellence!

2009 Calico White
Columbia Valley
$19.00  [Order Now]

Bergevin Lane Calico White BlendWinemaking Notes:  The Calico White is our extremely popular white blend. There are reasons for that!  It all starts in the vineyards where we have the cooler climate Yakima Valley grapes playing against fuller-flavored Columbia Valley and Walla Walla fruit.  The attributes from these different areas go hand in hand and they are being accentuated at the winery utilizing many different fermentation vessels and techniques to create a clean, crisp and enormously complex blend!

Blend:  42% Roussanne, 33% Viognier, 17% Chardonnay, 8% Marsanne

Alcohol: 13.9%

Cases produced: 1200

Vineyards:  Smasne, Willow Crest, Francisca's Vineyard, Bosma, and Lonesome Springs.

Tasting Notes:  White peaches, citrus, and lemon peel combines with pears and apples enticingly teasing the senses. Certain mineral components adds layers of complexity while maintaining great over all sensory balance.  Very smooth and rich in the mouth flavors develop reminiscent of partly sur lie aged wine adding even deeper layers and over all balance. A certain favorite for summer sipping!

Walla Walla Valley, Francisca’s Vineyard
$52.00
[Order Now]
92 pts - Wine Spectator

Bergevin Lane Princess SyrahWinemaking & Vineyard Notes:  As always at Francisca’s Vineyard the ability to hang the fruit until the end of the season makes for highly concentrated flavors and ripe tannins! The grapes are gently popped open for extraction purposes, cold soaked and fermented at lower temperatures to retain the feel of the vineyard. The wine post macerated on the skins until the extraction is complete and then gently bled off to barrels for malolactic fermentation. No pressure is ever applied to any of our wines!

Varietal Composition: 100% Syrah

Vineyard: Francisca's Vineyard in Walla Walla Valley AVA

Oak:  14 months in 57% new oak. A combination of new French and American oak.

Cases produced:  150 Unfined & unfiltered

Tasting Notes:  Your first sip is love at first site – opening up with deep and concentrated black fruits before mingling with dark, majestic citrus elegance. The Princess Syrah shows her incredible complexity, delivering wood smoke, licorice, oak and some tar combined with classic meaty Syrah characteristics. The palate is rich, broad and silky with a certain textural complexity that well describes Francisca’s Vineyard
